Open World Program – Russian Leadership Program   A grant from the Open World Leadership Development Program has allowed World Services to bring 400 Russian emerging leaders to visit the U.S.

Goal:  To provide a program that assists in developing health, social services, environment, and civil society programs.  Some programs that developed as a result of the exchanges included  domestic violence prevention and intervention (including criminal justice and legal professional exchanges and involvement), and a youth drug abuse and alcohol prevention and intervention program in ten cities of Russia.

Major Achievements:  The program allowed 85 Women Leaders from ten cities in Russia to visit the U.S. and develop and implement a plan to deal with domestic violence in their home communities.  Sixty representatives of “Rule of Law” included judges and police officers involved in domestic violence resulted in a comprehensive intervention program being established.   Follow up by professionals from Dubna, Russia provides guidance in implementing the programs.  A similar program was designed for 140 Youth and Youth Leaders who are working with their community leaders to establish a drug and alcohol abuse prevention and intervention program in the same ten cities of Russia.  Environment and waste management programs for 40 professionals focused on recycling and other environmental issues in ten cities of Russia.  The balance of the delegates included Women as Business Leaders.  They have developed  several small businesses in their home communities.  Most delegates were selected from the closed cities of  Russia.

Impact:  Each group of delegates  has developed a plan with specific goals and objectives to be accomplished in the twelve month period following their visit..
