Impact: Since the problem of violence against women persists as a chronic and overwhelming problem in Russia, the mere awareness of domestic violence programs may start to make an impact in Dubna. Community education, through “town meetings”, posters and flyers, and call-in radio and television shows, seek to increase awareness of the need for equity for women and children. Much has been accomplished in two short years, and much more is expected for Dubna in the next five years.
Additional highlights: Collaboration in domestic violence work in Dubna has included Sister Cities International.
Funding: Staff of World Services of La Crosse, Inc. has managed grants from the International Research Exchange (IREX) utilizing funds from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Sister Cities International as a grantee of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Grants have totaled approximately $300,000.
