Goal: To provide training in clinical practice guideline development for Ukraine health care professionals.
Major achievements: A team of health care professionals have been trained in care path guideline development for major diagnoses in Kharkiv and Korobichkino: gastrointestinal disease, tuberculosis, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cancer menopause, sexually transmitted diseases (chlamydia), prenatal care for pregnant patients, breast health, safety in the work place. Follow up and evaluation occurred in April and May, 2001 in Ukraine.
Impact: The efficient practice of medicine is the expected outcome of this training process. Baseline data is being documented to be able to report the improvement in quality of care and the specific patient outcome. If TB, hypertension, cancer, and gastrointestinal diseases can be reduced in the demonstration cities of Kharkiv and Korbichkino, the same practice can then be replicated throughout the Ukraine to recognize an even more dramatic change in global health status.
